Welcome to 'The People's Marae'.

Ko wai mātou

Who we are

Hurunui-o-Rangi Marae is located in Gladstone, approximately 20kms south of Masterton which surrounds our pae maunga; Maungarake.

The Mākahakaha and Taueru rivers which join Ruamahanga run swiftly, bringing life and nourishment to the district.

The mana whenua iwi is Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa.

Hurunui-o-Rangi Marae are known as ‘the people’s marae’.  It is the place we call home, our whenua taurikura, our tūrangawaewae.

It represents our founding tīpuna, who gifted their home in 1955, after our original marae burnt to the ground.

Our marae community is intergenerational.  We are a strong whānau looking to realise the vision and dreams of our tīpuna and kaumātua for our rangatahi, our mokopuna and future generations to come.

We are a humble marae and we firmly believe that our home is who we share it with, so we invite you to come and experience a living marae and Papakāinga.

Our marae is governed by a Board of Trustees pursuant to the Charter which was adopted in General Meeting on 22 July 2018.
